Trinity Western 'off the schnide'

Although the Trinity Western University Titans had won some exhibition games with American universities and an exhibition game against SFU already this year, it took until the middle of November to gain any points during BC Intercollegiate League play.

The Titans squad has lacked depth -- with not as many returning players -- and have struggled out of the gate this year but the team broke into the win column when it travelled to Castlegar on November 15th and 16th and defeated Selkirk College 6-3 and 7-5.

Last Saturday, after an 8-hour bus trip and some discussion about forsaking 'mediocrity', TWU played its best 20 minutes of hockey this year and led 4-1 after the first period, outshooting the opposition 20-5.

The games were competitive but the TWU players were hungry for wins and Sam Ahlgren got off his personal schnide and finally scored his first goals of the season — two in each game.

The second game was a close see-saw affair with Selkirk scoring, TWU tying, and it went back and forth until TWU took control in the third period.

Leading the way for the Titans was rookie defenseman Jonathan Woof with 1 goal and 5 assists and Josh MacKnee with 3 goals and 2 assists.

So this month Trinity has a chance to win some more with exhibition games with Western Washington University on November 21st and 22nd and a meeting with Selkirk at home on November 29th. This could be the “November to Remember” with the potential of 6 wins, including the 3 exhibition games.
