Eight months after meeting in the BCIHL Championship at the end of last season, the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades had their first chance to strike back at the team that kept them from winning their first league title.
But as has been the case in all six league games they've played this season, Simon Fraser University's power-play and goaltending was the difference in a 5-1 win.
Jaime Laprise led the way for SFU with two goals, including a slick individual effort early in the third period that put the game away. After receiving an outlet pass from linemate John Bressette, Larpise sped down the left wing past Cascades blueliner Nathan Sagert and tucked the puck past netminder Josh Pastoor on a forehand deke.
Garrett Lee was once again strong in net for Simon Fraser, allowing just a first period tally off the stick of Stefano Tassone. Lee has now allowed one or fewer goals in four of five starts, and hasn't conceded an even strength goal yet this season.
Simon Fraser and Fraser Valley meet again next weekend in the back-end up a home-and-home series. The puck drops on Saturday, November 15th at 9:30 PM from Centre Ice in Abbotsford.
