The University-College of the Fraser Valley and the University of Victoria each began the 2008 BCIHL Championships on a high Friday night, winning their opening games against Simon Fraser and Trinity Western.
In the evening's first game, UCFV All-Star trio Rob Vos, Kyle Krunick and Dan MacIver combined for 14 points in a 7-3 win over SFU. Vos topped the scoring parade for the Cascades with a hat trick and two assists while Krunick and MacIver each contributed four-point efforts.
Later Friday, Victoria overcame a flurry of penalties and rallied from down a goal to beat Trinity Western 4-2. Brent Sutherland and Steve Price led the way for the Vikes, each notching a goal and an assist while winger Kit Matkaluk scored the winning goal on his return to the line-up after being sidelined since November with a hand injury.
BCIHL Championships action continues Saturday morning with rivals Simon Fraser and Trinity Western facing off at 9:30am and UCFV and Victoria taking the ice at 11:45am.
