The University of Victoria finished the 2007/08 BC Intercollegiate Hockey League season undefeated at home, but Saturday night's tie against SFU spoiled the Vikes' hopes of eight consecutive wins on their Vancouver Island turf.
Victoria began the two-game homestand with a 5-2 victory over Simon Fraser Friday night that was highlighted by a Daniel Birch breakaway goal with just two seconds left in the second period, extending the Vikes' lead to 4-2.
SFU came out swinging Saturday, building a 4-0 lead, but fell into penalty trouble and eventually settled for a 4-4 draw. Victoria completed the comeback with just 12 seconds left in the game, burying a loose puck during a goalmouth scramble.
Victoria finished the regular season tops in the BCIHL with a 14-1-1 record while SFU closed out the year at 7-6-3.
