For the second straight season, the University of Victoria Vikings finished tops in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League regular season standings after sweeping a home set against Selkirk College this weekend.
Victoria defeated the Saints by 8-3 Friday night before storming back from a 3-0 first period deficit and scoring seven unanswered goals in a 9-5 victory Saturday. In that game, UVic winger David Blake led the way with two goals and three assists while centre Chris McKague spotted four points before a fight with Selkirk forward Garret Ferguson ended his night prematurely.
The pair of games wrapped the season for Selkirk College, who struggled to a 1-15 record in their inaugural BCIHL season. Their were bright spots for the Saints, however, as captain Mike Boisvert and forward Dustin St. Denis sit amongst the top-10 in league scoring, while goaltender Adam Postmus' excellent play was lost in the statistics but apparent to his team's competition.
The Vikes lower the curtain on their regular season next weekend when they host Simon Fraser University for a pair of contests. They will then enter the BCIHL Championship Tournament as the first-place seed two weeks later in Langley.
