The University-College of the Fraser Valley clinched second place in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League regular season standings and kept their slim hopes for first alive with an 8-2 win over Simon Fraser University Friday night.
SFU struck first on an early power-play goal by Jason Pagliaro, but UCFV hit the back of the net often as the game progressed. The Cascades capitalized on a rare six-minute power play midway through the second period, scoring on all three back-to-back-to-back minor penalties to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
UCFV winger Dan MacIver capped the scoring with an unassisted hat-trick goal while BCIHL leading scorer Rob Vos notched three assists.
Goaltender Josh Pastoor notched his fourth win of the season - and his second in two weeks at the expense of SFU - while Tomoya Tsuruta entered the game in the third period after the result was no longer in doubt.
UCFV plays its final regular season contest at home to Trinity Western University on Sunday, March 9th while Simon Fraser concludes its league schedule with a roadtrip to the University of Victoria next weekend.
