NCAA transfer Bilous commits to Simon Fraser for 2017/18 season

Simon Fraser University is proud to announce the commitment of defenceman Braxton Bilous of Langley, BC as a member of the 2017/18 recruit class.

Braxton comes to SFU from SUNY-Geneseo of the NCAA where he spent the 2016/17 season after two years with NCAA DI program Merrmiack College.

The 6-foot-1 defenceman will bring a wealth of experience to an already strong SFU defense core which expects to be one of the strongest in the BCIHL. Braxton's junior career spanned three teams in two leagues. First suiting up for the Victoria Grizzlies, followed by the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL before wrapping up his junior career in the AJHL with perennial powerhouse Brooks Bandits.

He played 193 regular season games in junior collecting 57 (15g - 42a) points from the blue line. Bilous describes his game as “a two-way game with a defense-first mentality.”

When asked what he is hoping for this season, Bilous responded “my only goal this year is to win a championship.”

In college, Bilous saw limited time over two seasons with Merrmack, but played a significant role for SUNY-Geneseo where he picked up 3 (1g-2a) points in 26 games for the Knights. He will also be an intimidating force on the back end having picked up over 270 PIMS during his junior and college career.

There will be familiar faces in the SFU dressing room as Bilous played alongside Matthew Berry-Lamontgna and Dustin Cave during their time with the West Kelowna Warriors.

Given his experience, Head Coach Mark Coletta is expecting Bilous to be a valuable part of the team “adding a player who has Division 1 NCAA experience is huge, both on and off the ice.”
