SFU adds slick forward Mac Colasimone on transfer from CIS Calgary Dinos

SFU adds slick forward Mac Colasimone on transfer from CIS Calgary Dinos

SFU Men's Hockey

Simon Fraser University is proud to announce the fourth recruit signing for the 2017/18 season, forward Mac Colasimone of Surrey, BC. Colasimone transfers to SFU from the University of Calgary Dinos where he spent the 2016/17 campaign.

The 5-foot-6 forward is expected to be a key contributor to the SFU offense after putting up 185pts (59g 126a) in 134 junior hockey games, which included leading the Colorado Jr Eagles to a WSHL final in 2016.

Head Coach Mark Coletta is excited to bring a player with university experience into the program: “Along with the speed and skill, Mac will bring experience playing at the university level with him, which will help him fit in with our group very well.”

Colasimone hopes that his varsity experience will help him this year both on and off the ice: “My goals for this season are to be the best student and hockey player I can be.” When asked about his style of play he described himself as a “small speedy playmaker.”

Colasimone's coach with the Colorado Jr Eagles Steve Haddon feels SFU should be excited about the player they're getting: “He's fearless out there and plays with an edge. With the combination of speed, skill and hockey sense he's the complete package.”

SFU fans can expect to see him flying up and down the ice at Bill Copeland as Hadon added “I played ten seasons of pro hockey and he's one of the fastest players with the puck I've ever seen.”

While Colasimone checks in at 5-foot-6, Haddon cautions those who may look at his height as a detriment “he plays like he's 6-foot-4 so don't let his size fool you, he's one of the most dominant players I've seen.”

Colasimone's commitment brings another high end offensive talent into the SFU dressing room. Last season SFU lead the BCIHL with 104 goals in 24 regular season games and with the recruits that have been brought in so far, there shouldn't be a lack of scoring on the roster for 2017/18.
