SFU adds PJHL scoring leader Eric Callegari for 2017/18 season

Simon Fraser University is proud to announce Eric Callegari as the team's third commitment for the 2017/18 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Callegari joins the Clan after a stellar season where he won a PJHL championship with the Aldergrove Kodiaks. He also led the league in scoring and picked up League MVP honours.

If the last name sounds familiar, it's because Eric will be joining older brother Adam, who is going into his Senior year with the Clan­.

“Eric is a tremendous talent with an edge to his game,” says SFU head coach Mark Coletta of Callegari, who averaged over 1.3 points per game over three seasons with the Kodiaks. “I believe he has the skills and attributes to be an all-star in the BCIHL.” 

Callegari describes himself as an “intense player who doesn’t shy away from playing a physical game.”

Callegari’s coach during his time with the Kodiaks, Darrin Vetterl, spoke highly of the player that SFU will be getting this year: “He really comes to play every night and he plays like he’s bigger than he is. We were able to play him in any situation, and with his skill he’s able to control a game.”

Callegari himself has set a goal for himself to be the best rookie in the BCIHL for the coming season. He joins an SFU team that led the BCIHL in goals, and will bring yet another high end offensive threat to the forward group. He will also bring more grit to the line-up having collected 242 PIMS in his junior career.
