The two teams yet to lose a regular season game will go head-to-head this weekend in a pair of anticipated games at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre in Burnaby.
Last weekend, VIU's steady offence continued as the Mariners beat the UVIC Vikes 5-2, outshooting their opponent 56-28. VIU's Gavin Rauser continued to lead with 2 goals in the win, one shorthanded, helping him secure Player of the Month honours from the BCIHL.
SFU earned their first win of the season with an injury-depleted lineup against the Okanagan Lakers. SFU was forced to dress only 12 forwards and 5 defencemen, but managed to hold off the Lakers with the help of some timely saves from BCIHL Player of the Week Michael Lenko. Lenko made 42 saves in the win.
On Friday November 5th and Saturday November 6th, the Mariners travel to Burnaby for a pair of games against rival SFU. Friday will mark SFU's regular season home opener while VIU returns to Burnaby for the first time since their 5-1 Captains Cup win over SFU on October 2nd.
VIU's productive trio of Rauser and rookies Parker Bergstrom and Brock Palmer will look to continue the offensive output. SFU's balanced attack at the early stages has involved Mathieu Jallabert, Selkirk transfers Garrett Hilton and Tristen Cross, as well as rookie Logan Bromhead.
Tickets for both games are on sale now at shop.sfuhockey.com and webcast will be available on HockeyTV.
