UVic's Mueller named Player of the Week following championship-winning goal

University of Victoria forward Shawn Mueller has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending March 20th.

The fifth-year forward ended his five-year BCIHL career in the ultimate fashion on Monday night, scoring the Vikes' championship-winning goal with 7 seconds remaining in regulation to net a 3-2 win in Game 3 of the BCIHL Finals over Trinity Western.

While the goal will be remembered as Mueller's greatest moment in his BCIHL playing career, he also contributed a pair of key assists during the series. In Game 2, with UVic trailing in the final minute and on the verge of elimination, he helped set up Brandon Volpe's tying goal to send the game to overtime.

And on Monday, he found a loose puck high in the TWU zone and fed Patrick Holland all alone in front of the Spartans' goal to get UVic on the board after trailing 1-0 into the second period.

Mueller closed out the 2017 Playoffs with five goals and eight points in five games.

Runners up for this week's award include Trinity Western University goaltender Silas Matthys, University of Victoria goaltender Michael Fredrick and University of Victoria forward Patrick Holland.
