The Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from center Kale Wild (Navan, ON) to attend SFU and join the team for the 2012/13 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Wild, a gritty forward, played for the Junior ‘A’ Cumberland Grads of the CCHL. During his three seasons in Ontario, Wild totalled 85 points and 109 penalty minutes in 170 games.
SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta looks forward to adding the hard working two way forward to the lineup.
"When recruiting players you look at many factors, but the most important for me is character. Knowing that Kale was taking classes at the University of Ottawa while playing junior hockey shows what kind of a person that SFU and SFU Hockey is getting," says Coletta.
"Knowing that he had Middlebury College (NCAA D3) on his shortlist also tells me we are getting ourselves a quality hockey player," he adds.
"I am excited to be coming to SFU because it has a strong academic reputation, the hockey team has a winning tradition, and the campus is located in a beautiful part of Canada," says Wild, who describes his on-ice attributes as hard working and responsible, and says he plans on winning a league championship with the school.
The prospect of coming to BC also seems to have the young recruit excited.
"I am looking forward to excelling in the classroom and experiencing the west coast lifestyle."
Wild is SFU’s seventh commitment for the 2012/13 season. Additional player announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
