The BC Intercollgiate Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Island University forward Kobe Oishi is the BCIHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 12, 2020.
Oishi had three assists as the Mariners split two road games in Castlegar against Selkirk College on Friday and Saturday.
The Kelowna product was held pointless on Friday but set up all three VIU goals on Saturday en route to a 3-2 victory over the Saints. Oishi assisted on Brett Witala’s goal just 2:47 into the game and then teed up another by Gage Colpron on the power play with just under two minutes left in the first period. He got the lone assist on Colpron’s second of the night at 7:47 of the third period, which stood up as the game winner.
The 23-year-old, who’s into his third BCIHL season with the Mariners, was playing just his first two games of the season. The two-time VIJHL champion has averaged nearly a point per game during his BCIHL career, with 13 goals and 31 assists in 51 games.
Honourable mentions for this week's BCIHL Player of the Week include Selkirk College defenceman Tristen Cross (three assists in two games), Simon Fraser University forward Ty Westgard (one goal, two assists in one game), Trinity Western University forward Evan Last (one goal, one assist in one game) and University of Victoria goaltender Daniel Paul (54 saves in one game).
