After five seasons spent as one of the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League's most steady two-way forwards, two-time league champion and Trinity Western University mainstay Florian Niedermaier has signed a professional contract with HC Davos of the Swiss National League.
The 24-year old arrived at TWU from his native Switzerland in 2014 and missed just two games over his time with the Spartans. His 119 regular season appearances are just two behind UVic's Shawn Mueller for the all-time league record.
Niedermaier scored 36 goals and totaled 68 points during his time in the BCIHL, including personal highs of 13 goals and 21 points during the 2017/18 season. He capped that season by playing a key role as TWU captured their first BCIHL championship, and he helped the Spartans repeat as champs in 2019.
He is no stranger to HC Davis, having suited up for their U15, U17 and U20 teams. He played one game for the National League team in 2014 before heading to TWU. Niedermaier has also represented Switzerland at the U16, U17 and U18 levels in international play.
Niedermaier joins former Spartans goaltender Silas Matthys playing professionally in their homeland, as Matthys signed with HC Lugano following the 2017/18 BCIHL season.
