Selkirk College jumped out to a four-goal lead after 40 minutes and held on for a 5-2 victory over the University of Victoria at the Castlegar Recreation Complex on Friday night.
Edward Lindsey put the Saints on the board just 3:06 into regulation and Kadrian Klimchuk scored shorthanded minutes later to double the lead. Tayden Woods scored his first B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League goal midway through the second period and Joe Gage followed suit to extend the lead to four.
Branden Voss scored the Vikes' first of the night early in the third, but the Saints replied minutes later. Victoria's Otis Goldman rounded out the scoring.
Andrew Thompson led the way with a goal and an assist for Selkirk, while Brayden McCartney and Tyler Hartman each had two assists.
Tallon Kramer was named the game's first star after a 25-save effort, while Michael Fredrick was busy in allowing five goals on 48 shots.
The teams will close out their two-game weekend series on Saturday. The game is set for a 7:00 PM faceoff and will be broadcast on Hockey TV.
