EWU's Paxton Bell named Player of the Week after 5 points in season finale

EWU's Paxton Bell named Player of the Week after 5 points in season finale

BCIHL Media

Eastern Washington University forward Paxton Bell has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending March 1st.

The Eagles winger scored twice and picked up three assists on Saturday night to lead Eastern to a 7-5 home win over Selkirk College in their final game of the 2014/15 BCIHL season.

Following a Saints goal early in the first period, Bell set up Brett Mathews to tie the game on an EWU power-play. And minutes later, amid a flurry of goals, Bell gave the hosts a 3-2 lead when he capped off a passing play from linemates Beau Walker and Alec Burks.

Selkirk appeared to have taken control of the game in the second period with three straight goals until Bell assisted on a tally from Walker with just one second remaining in the frame. He went on to add another goal and assist in the third as EWU scored four straight to earn the win.

Bell's five-point night moved him all the way up to 12th amongst BCIHL scoring leaders. He finished his second season in the league on a six-game point streak that included seven goals and eight assists.

Runners up for this week's award include Trinity Western University forward PJ Buys, University of Victoria forward Adam Klein and Simon Fraser University forward Jono Ceci.
