Eastern Washington University is pleased to announce that forward Beau Walker (West Richland, WA) has committedto join the Eagles for the 2013/14 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Walker comes to EWU after finishing his junior hockey career with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Walker spent the three seasons with Corpus Christi and one with the Alaska Avalanche of the NAHL posting 144 points in 174 games overall.
Walker started last season at Sacred Heart University (NCAA D-1), playing in 5 games before returning to Corpus Christi and leading the IceRays to a playoff berth. Walker will be the first player to play for the Eagles that has NCAA Division 1 playing experience.
Walker stands 6-foot, 180 lbs and is a skilled forward who should excite fans.
"This is a big get for our program," says Eagles head coach Bill Shaw. "I remember four years ago when Beau signed with Alaska. we identified him as player we hoped our program could attract after he was done with junior hockey."
Walker will be reunited with many familiar faces when he gets to EWU. Shaw credited assistant coach Pat Hanlon for the commitment as well.
"Pat made a trip to Corpus Christi in January and got to meet Beau face to face. It’s no secret our program and league is growing but we still have to spread the word about EWU and the BCIHL, and Pat has done a great job of that."
Walker joins current Eagles centre Jake Flynn as players with extensive NAHL experience.
