The BC Intercollegiate Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Island University forward Garrett Dunlop is the BCIHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 16, 2020.
It's the second time this season and third time in his career that Dunlop has earned the BCIHL Player of the Week award. The third year veteran had a goal and two assists in two games as th Mariners snapped Trinity Western University's five game winning streak.
The Nanaimo, BC product had an assist on Adam Morton's goal 22 seconds into the third period on Saturday in VIU's 3-2 win over the Spartans.
The 24-year-old tallied an assist in the final seconds of the first period and then scored the winning goal 2:09 into the final frame on Sunday as the Mariners beat TWU by the same 3-2 score as 24 hours prior.
The graduate of the SJHL's Nipawin Hawks leads the BCIHL in goals and points this season and has recorded at least a point in each of VIU's 20 games in 2019-20. Dunlop is also tops among all players in power play goals with five.
Honourable mentions for this week's BCIHL Player of the Week include Simon Fraser University forward Takato Cox (three goals), Selkirk College forward Blake Sidoni (one goal, two assists), Saints forward Jack Karran (three goals), Vancouver Island University defenceman Adam Morton (two goals) and Trinity Western University forward Evan Last.
