The BC Intercollgiate Hockey League announced today that Trinity Western University defenceman Travis Verveda is the ANYTHING BRANDED BCIHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 13, 2019.
Verveda had three points (one goal, two assists) for the Spartans on Saturday as they opened their season with a home ice win.
Verveda scored a power play marker 6:25 into the second period to bring TWU to within one goal at 3-2. He then assisted on an Elijah Vilio goal to tie the game 3-3. The teams traded goals in the third period before Verveda added another assist on Kade Vilio's winner with just 48 seconds left in overtime.
Verveda, a former alternate captain for the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Camrose Kodiaks, was named BCIHL Player of the Week once last season. He led all blueliners in goals during the 2018-19 season with six.
The second-year defenceman also chipped in with four assists in three games last March as Trinity Western won its second straight BCIHL championship.
Honourable mentions for this week's BCIHL Player of the Week include Vancouver Island University forward Brett Witala, Selkirk College goaltender Tallon Kramer, Simon Fraser University forward Trevor Ayre and University of Victoria forward Keenan Eddy.
