Olson signs on with Vikes following transfer from ACAC Augustana

The University of Victoria is pleased to announce that defenseman Joe Olson has committed to the Vikes for 2018/19 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Olson is a native of Maple Ridge B.C. who spent the past two seasons playing for the Camrose-based University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings of the ACAC. A physical presence with mobility and a player who can play at both ends of the ice, Olson combined for two goals and 10 points over two seasons at Augustana.

Olson split his junior hockey between B.C. and Ontario, playing in the PJHL with the Ridge Meadows Flames for two seasons before joining the NOJHL's Abitibi Eskimos and Timmins Rock.

"When the opportunity came up to complete my degree at a top-end university in Victoria and playing hockey closer to home in front of family and friends, I knew it was the right decision and I'm looking forward to getting started in September," says Olson. "I’m very excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the Vikes hockey team with our goal of winning a championship."

Olson is the Vikes' fifth commitment of 2018, joining forwards Branden Voss (Drayton Valley, AJHL) and Eddie May (kindersley, SJHL), as well as defencemen Brody Jennings (English River, SIJHL) and Hayden Yaremko (University of Jamestown, ACHA).
