Simon Fraser adds veteran WHL forward Nick Holowko for winter semester

Simon Fraser University will get a boost this spring with the addition of Western Hockey League grad Nicholas Holowko. Holowko spent his first two seasons of Major Junior with the Seattle Thunderbirds before splitting his next two seasons between the Prince Albert Raiders, Kamloops Blazers and Prince George Cougars.

With 228 career WHL games under his belt, the Surrey, BC native carries a strong hockey resume and experience that will bolster an SFU lineup that has had a strong start to 2018.

Holowko is also no stranger to the Burnaby hockey community, having played his minor hockey for the Burnaby Winter Club and Burnaby Bulldogs.

“Nick will fit in very well with our group,” says SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “he brings some size and skill to our forward group. He is also familiar with our program and we expect him to transition from junior hockey to the BCIHL just fine.”

Nick could enter the lineup as early as this Thursday’s game against top-ranked Trinity Western.

SFU currently sits in third place in the BCIHL standings, 6 points behind Selkirk College but with two games at hand. SFU has kicked off 2018 on a strong note, winning their first three contests and outscoring their opponents 13-4 in that span.

With key games this weekend against TWU and defending champs UVIC, SFU will look to extend their winning streak in hopes of earning home ice advantage going into the playoffs.
