The University of Victoria is pleased to announce that defenseman Ryan Warner has committed to the Vikes for the 2019/20 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Warner spent last season with the Strathroy Rockets of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, scoring eight goals and adding 16 assists in 46 regular season games. He also suited up in five playoff contests.
He previously suited up for the SJHL’s Melville Millionaires in 2017/18 as well as the BCHL's Trail Smoke Eaters in 2016/17. He split the 2015/16 season between the Cowichan Capitals and the VIJHL's Peninsula Panthers. Warner has appeared in a total of 136 Junior A games.
The 21-year old is a native of Victoria and played his minor hockey for the Victoria Racquet Club, Saanich and Juan de Fuca. The 6-foot-3, 181-pounder is a hard-hitting physical defenseman who plays with lots of grit and defensive awareness and has an offensive upside to his game.
“I chose UVic because it allows me to pursue a university education in my hometown while continuing to play hockey at a high level,” he says.
Warner is the Vikes’ ninth commitment for the 2019/20 season, joining forwards Keegan Durrance, Keenan Eddy, Zac Gladu and Stratton Pickett, and blueliners Brock Shwaluk and Jarret Malloch.
