Michael Lenko stopped all 18 shots he faced on Friday night as the Simon Fraser University picked up a critical win in their chase for third place with a 4-0 home ice victory over the University of Victoria.
With the result, the Clan now trail VIU by three points for third place and the opportunity to avoid top-ranked Trinity Western in the first round of the BCIHL postseason.
Mathew Berry-Lamontagna opened the scoring six minutes into regulation and the 1-0 lead held into the third, when the Clan piled on with three more goals. Cole Plotnikoff doubled the lead with 15:24 remaining and Jaret Babych just 44 seconds later. Kyle Bergh added the SFU's fourth of the game to cap the scoring.
Niall Murphy took the loss in goal for the Vikes, stopping 26 shots on the night. Neither team scored on the power-play, with SFU going 0 for 4 and the Vikes 0 for 9.
The teams will complete their two-game weekend series at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Saturday night.
