Red Lake forward Stratton Pickett commits to University of Victoria

The University of Victoria is pleased to announce the signing of forward Stratton Pickett of the SIJHL's Red Lake Miners for the 2019/20 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

A native of Brooks, Alberta, Pickett played his minor hockey in Bassano, Brooks and Medicine Hat. After finishing off his minor hockey, Pickett headed to B.C. where he played a season with the Oceanside Generals of the VIJHL and affiliated with the BCHL's Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

He joined Red Lake last season and has been one of the Miners' top scorers as a 20-year old, accumulating 21 goals and 16 assists in 34 regular season games along with 22 minutes in penalties.

“Getting a solid education is important to me and I’ve heard nothing but good things about the program and the school," says Pickett, who is excited about starting the next chapter of his life as the future engineering student finishes off his Junior A career in Red Lake.

"Being able to play hockey on top of getting a great education is a bonus because I love playing and being able to do that for many more years at a competitive level is something I’ve been striving to do ever since I decided to play Junior hockey.”

The Vikes are back in action on Friday when they host Simon Fraser University. Faceoff is set for 7:30 PM.
