The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of November, which include games played the weekend of December 3-4.
Player of the Month - Jarrett Fontaine, Trinity Western University
The former Western Hockey League product was virtually unstoppable in November, hitting double digits in goals while putting up 15 points in just eight regular season games. He was held off the scoresheet just once, going pointless at home versus Selkirk College on Nov. 25th. But he rebounded in a big way, scoring a hat trick as part of a 5-point night against the Saints the following weekend.
Defenceman of the Month - Mathew Berry-Lamontagna, Simon Fraser University
This is the second win in the last three tries for Berry-Lamontanga, who also captured DOM in February of the 2015/16 season. The 23-year old has established himself as the league's top two-way blueliner, and his reputation was cemented in November as he led all BCIHL defencemen in goals (4) and points (9) while anchoring an SFU defence that allowed just 19 goals in eight games.
Goaltender of the Month - Lyndon Stanwood, Simon Fraser University
The former BCHL standout rebounded from an early season injury to confound shooters in November en route to a 4-0 record. Stanwood picked up road wins at UVic and EWU before returning home to star in a 5-1 win over Selkirk in which he stopped 34 shots. He closed out the month with a first star effort in a home win over the Vikes, and he remains the only BCIHL netminder unbeaten in five or more starts.
Rookie of the Month - Evan Last, Trinity Western University
Last could easily have earned Player of the Month honours if not for the perfmance of linemate Fontaine, but instead he is the league's top rookie for the second straight month. The MJHL alumnus was a playmaking machine, setting up 14 goals while also adding one of his own. He finished the month with four multi-point games, including a trio of three-point efforts and a four-assist outing in Castlegar on Dec. 2.
