Trinity Western University has bolstered its blueline in a major way as Spartans coach Barret Kropf officially announced the commitment of former WHL defenceman Jeremy McIntosh (Edmonton, AB) for the 2015/16 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound McIntosh spent two seasons with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs, from 2012 to 2014, collecting five goals, 10 assists and 155 penalty minutes in 135 regular season games. He also played 13 playoff games over the course of two seasons with the Chiefs.
Last year, the 20-year-old defenceman left the Chiefs prior to the start of the season to take some time away from hockey but then joined the Blackfalds Wranglers of Alberta’s Heritage Junior B Hockey League for the last eight games of the regular season and six playoff contests.
“Having lost Jake Harcoff to graduation and a pro contract we had some big skates to fill, but with the additions of Kaleb Denham and now Jeremy, I'm thrilled with how our back end is shaping up,” Kropf said.
“Jeremy’s two seasons in the WHL will give him plenty of confidence to come into our conference and be a dominant player. I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to develop and have success in both the classroom and on the ice. Jeremy will be a valuable asset for us as we continue to shape our culture of striving towards excellence.”
McIntosh, who graduated from Calgary’s Ernest Manning High School in 2013, plans to study business at TWU.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to continue my hockey career with the Spartans men’s hockey team,” McIntosh said, “I feel that being at TWU will help me to continue to grow as a young man in my studies, on the ice and in my relationship with God.”
The Spartans have now officially announced the signing of four players for 2015, including Denham (Innisfail, AB) and forwards Matthew Bissett (Pitt Meadows, B.C.) and Daniel Oakley (Richmond, B.C.).
