Trinity Western University has welcomed a key addition to its blue line, as Spartans coach Barret Kropf officially announced the signing of defenceman Kaleb Denham (Innisfail, AB) on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Denham, 18, will join the Spartans after spending the 2013-14 campaign and two games of the 2014-15 season with Grande Prairie of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
In 44 games with the Storm, Denham registered two goals and two assists.
Prior to making the jump to the AJHL, Denham played with the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAA team for the 2012-13 season. While with the Chiefs, Denham helped his team capture the 2013 Telus Cup and collected one goal and two assists in seven games. Most recently, Denham spent the 2014-15 school year studying at Ambrose University.
"We are really excited to be adding a player to the Spartan program of Kaleb’s talent," Kropf said. "He brings a Junior A pedigree to our already loaded defensive core. With his size and skill set, we will be able to continue to improve upon our stingy goals-against stats. He is a guy other junior and college teams were eager to have in their lineup, so having him in a Spartans uniform next year is great for our program."
"However, even more importantly is that Kaleb will help us carry our culture forward. He is a young man who is serious about his faith adventure and we know he will develop into a great leader for us both on and off the ice."
enham, who plans to study Business at TWU said: "TWU was the clear choice for me as I was looking at schools who shared the same beliefs as myself and have a highly recognized business program. Not only does TWU fit that criteria, but it also has a thriving hockey program that I am excited to be a part of."
Denham joins forward Daniel Oakley (Richmond, B.C.) as Kropf’s first two signees of the 2015 recruiting class.
