The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of February.
Player of the Month - Beau Walker, Eastern Washington University
Four consecutive multi-point games were all that was needed to wrap-up a league scoring title for the first-year Eastern Washington forward. Walker helped lead the Eagles to their first .500 month of the season with two wins in four games. His month was highlighted by a pair of four-point nights in home victories over Simon Fraser University and Selkirk College and he totaled five goals and eight assists overall.
Defenceman of the Month - Chase Wharton, Eastern Washington University
Primarily known as a physical force on the blueline, Wharton broke out offensively in February to finish his third BCIHL season on a high. He chipped in two assists in a win over SFU and scored in back-to-back games mid-month. In the Eagles' final regular season contest, the 23-year old had his first three-point night in the BCIHL with a trio of assists in a 7-5 victory over Selkirk.
Goaltender of the Month - James Prigione, Selkirk College
Prigione began the month with 24 saves in a 2-1 shootout loss to SFU before picking up three straight wins to close out the regular season. Two of those victories came during a crucial road sweep at Victoria when the Ontario native stopped 49 of 52 shots to clinch second place for the Saints. His overall numbers -- a 1.71 goals-against average and .930 save-percentage -- led all BCIHLers with three or more starts on the month.
Rookie of the Month - Ryan Edwards, Selkirk College
A back-to-back winner of the award, Edwards continued his ofensive dominance in Feruary. He established himself as Selkirk's go-to weapon on a line with Darnell Dyck and Logan Proulx, picking up five goals and 13 points to tie Beau Walker for the league leads in February in both categories. He picked up seven points in a crucial two-game road sweep of Victoria and 23 of his 32 points as a rookie came in Selkirk's final nine regular season games.
