Selkirk College kept pace with UVic for second place in the BCIHL standings and home-ice advantage in the first round of playoffs, picking up a key two points with a 6-3 home ice win over Eastern Washington.
The Saints now sit tied with the Vikes with identical records of 10-7-0-3, three points ahead of Simon Fraser University.
It was Eastern that took an early lead on Friday when Paxton Bell opened the scoring less than four minutes into regulation. The teams then exchanged a trio of power-play goals before intermission, as markers from Selkirk's Jamie Vlanich and Ryan Procyshyn sandwiched a Chase Wharton tally for the Eagles.
JR Strait gave EWU their third lead of the night midway through the second period, but the Saints took the game over from there with four unanswered goals.
Matt Martin struck twice before the end of the second, while Ryan Edwards and Marc-Antoine Guimond capped the scoring in the third.
James Prigione picked up his seventh win of the season in net for the Saints, turning aside 20 shots. Tyler O'Donnell was tagged for the loss despite a 26-save effort.
The teams will close out their weekend home-and-home series tonight in Cheney, WA. The game is set for a 7:00 PM faceoff.
