Add up the goals from the weekend's two-game series between Eastern Washington and the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island and you'll notice a clear winner: Shawn Mueller.
The Junior A grad and third-year forward set a BCIHL record on Friday night, scoring six goals in a single game as the Vikes rolled to a 10-2 victory at the Iain Stewart Complex.
Mueller scored twice in the first period, once in the second and three times in the closing frame, while linemate Adam Klein added six points of his own in the lopsided win.
UVic actually held a one-goal lead through much of the middle period but exploded for seven unanswered goals during a 15-minute span during the second and third.
Beau Walker -- on a first period penalty shot -- and Cody Ogrin supplied the offence for the visitors.
Scott Legault picked up his second win in as many starts for the Vikes, turning aside 23 shots on the night. Tyler O'Donnell took the loss for EWU, while John Kiepe allowed four goals in relief as he made his first BCIHL appearance in goal.
The Eagles bounced back impressively in the rematch on Saturday, however, as Austin Brihn backstopped his team to a 3-2 shootout win that included 37 saves during regulation and overtime and a whopping 10-straight unsuccessful shootout attempts.
Adam Klein put UVic ahead with a pair of goals in the first period, sandwiching a Morgan Ouellette marker, and the Vikes seemed to be in control through the second and third. But a Josh Rolfe goal with 3:45 remaining in regulation tied the game and forced overtime.
With five minutes of four-on-four play solving nothing, the teams advanced to a prolonged shootout that included nine scoreless rounds before AJ King finally beat Vikes netminder Nick Babich to clinch the extra point for the Eagles.
Both teams will have lots of time to recover from Saturday's marathon with a weekend off on tap before home dates on November 21st when EWU hosts Trinity Western and UVic welcomes SFU.
