The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of October (includes games played September 26/27).
Player of the Month - Cody Fidgett, Trinity Western University
It took no time at all for Fidgett to adjust to a new team after an offseason transfer from Selkirk College. The 2014 BCIHL Second Team All-Star quickly jumped to the top of the league scoring charts with five points on opening weekend against UVic and at one point struck for a pair of goals in four consecutive games for the first place Spartans. He closed out the month with 11 goals and 18 points in eight games.
Defenceman of the Month - Jake Harcoff, Trinity Western University
Harcoff is well on his way to a career year offensively in his third year with the Spartans, having posted 12 assists in eight games over the season's opening month. He quarterbacked the TWU power-play, which leads the league at an eye-popping 37.8% success rate and has paced all BCIHLers with seven assists on the man-advantage. One month in he has already matched his previous high for points in a season.
Goaltender of the Month - Andrew Parent, Simon Fraser University
Parent is back for a fifth season with the Clan and opened the season right where he left off in 2013/14. He picked up the win in all three of Simon Fraser's October victories, including a 38-save performance in a home win over Selkirk College and a shootout triumph over Trinity Western. His 2.27 goals-against average and .926 save-percentage were both tops in the BCIHL during the opening month of the season.
Rookie of the Month - Beau Walker, Eastern Washington University
Walker has proven to be a game-breaker in his first full season with the Eagles. Three-point efforts in early season home wins over SFU and Selkirk set the tone for the former NCAA D1 forward, who proceeded to put up 13 points over a four-game stretch. He was never held off the scoresheet in seven October games, and has scored or assisted on 18 of EWU's 25 goals scored to date.
