Eastern Washington University is pleased to announce the addition of forward Al Maul (Missoula, MT) from the NJCAA National Champion Williston State College Tetons.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward will bring some much needed size to the program as well as the experience of being on a championship team. Maul, a native of Missoula spent three years in junior hockey playing for his home town team the Missoula Maulers.
The Eagles staff talked about their need to get bigger this summer and Maul certainly will bring size to a line-up that has needed it. Maul posted 88 points and 80 PIMs in 123 games of junior hockey prior to his two years with Williston State College where he won two NJCAA National Championships playing 54 games over the two seasons.
"Al will allow the team to play a different style at times if needed," says Eagles general manager Bill Shaw. "In the past our skill guys haven't had much help in the way of physical play on their lines and adding a big proven asset like Al will change that."
Maul is expected to be a big physical presence and help a team that struggled on the power play with the lack of a net front presence.
Maul is the 11th commitment for the Eagles this spring in what was expected to be a busy recruiting year for the team.
