Netminder Glass commits to Selkirk College from SJHL's Nipawin Hawks

Netminder Glass commits to Selkirk College from SJHL's Nipawin Hawks

Selkirk College Men's Hockey

The Selkirk College Men's Hockey program is pleased to announce a playing commitment from goaltender Steven Glass (Saskatoon, SK) to attend Selkirk College and compete for the Saints beginning in the 2014/15 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Glass is a 6-foot-1, 175 pound netminder who joins the back-to-back BCIHL champions from the Nipawin Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. The 20-year old posted a 10-8-0 record with two shutouts in 20 games this season while recording a 3.36 goals-against average and .907 save-percentage.

He spent the previous two seasons with the Estevan Bruins, where he was named the team's Top Rookie and Playoff MVP following the 2011/12 campaign. In his first SJHL season, Glass finished 13-13-1 with a 3.49 GAA and .899 SV% in 28 games played before missing out on his 19-year old year due to injury.

Overall, his career numbers in the SJHL included a record of 27-25-1 with a 3.45 GAA and .903 SV%.

"Steven is an athletic netminder who gives us another great option in goal alongside James Prigione," says Saints head coach Jeff Dubois.

"He brings a lot of success from a very competitive Junior A league in Saskatchewan and we're very excited about his potential to develop into a top goaltender in the BCIHL."

Glass, whose career goal is to become a doctor, plans to enter Selkirk's Rural Medicine program.

"I'm looking forward to experiencing the college hockey atmosphere, developing under a great program, and living somewhere that isn't completely flat," jokes the Saskatoon product, who describes himself as a butterfly goalie who focuses on speed and positioning.

"I'd say that consistency and rebound control are big parts of my game," explains Glass, who is setting some lofty on and off ice goals entering the 2014/15 campaign. "Academically, I’m shooting for a 3.8 GPA. Athletically, my goal is to progress with the team as we look to capture a third straight championship."

Glass will look to help fill the void between the pipes left by the graduation of Chris Hurry, who was named the BCIHL's Top Goaltender in 2013/14 while setting league-bests in wins, GAA and SV%.

He is the Saints' sixth commitment for the 2014/15 season, joining forwards Ryan Edwards (Beaver Valley, KIJHL), Jamie Vlanich (Nelson Leafs, KIJHL) and Connor Beauchemin (Castlegar Rebels, KIJHL), as well as defencemen Curtis Toneff (Campbell River Storm, VIJHL) and Danny Vlanich (Surrey Eagles, BCHL).
