Trinity Western University has added a key piece to its defensive core as head coach Barret Kropf officially announced the signing of blueliner Karsten Seidel for the 2014/14 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound rearguard spent the 2013/14 season with the Pacific Junior Hockey League's North Delta Devils and Delta IceHawks. He played a combined 40 regular season games, collecting one goal, eight assists and 51 penalty minutes. He also played six games at the Junior A level this season with the BCHL’s Eagles.
In 2012-13, Seidel played 23 games with Delta and had five assists.
"Karsten is a talented young defenceman who has a huge upside," Kropf said. "We're thrilled to have him be part of our program and we're excited to see him develop with us both on and off the ice. He is a player with the potential for a long hockey career."
"Karsten is a great student who places his faith as a priority in all areas of life. Having a young elite Junior A calibre player sign with us speaks volumes about the level of our league and our program. Players are seeing this is not just as an ending point to their careers but rather a launching pad for professional careers."
This past season, Seidel also played in the 2014 PIJHL Top Prospects game, featuring the best young talent in the league.
"I'm extremely excited to be joining an up-and-coming Spartans hockey program," says Seidel, who will graduate from Langley Christian Secondary this spring. "I'm hoping I can strengthen not only my abilities on the ice but also my faith during my time at TWU. I have heard many great things about the school and the coaching staff, which made my decision to join the Spartans an easy one."
Seidel joins defenceman Ryan Bakken as the Spartans' first two official signings for the 2014-15 campaign.
