Former BCHL, ACHA stand-out Erik Hudson joins EWU as Goaltending Coach
Thursday, July 26, 2012 - Submitted by EWU Men's Hockey
The Eastern Washington University Men's Hockey program is pleased to announce the addition of Erik Hudson to the 2012/13 coaching staff as the team's Goaltending Coach.

This will be Hudson’s first year in coaching after finishing his playing career last year in the Southern Professional Hockey League with Fayetteville. Prior to that he played for Iowa State in the ACHA Division 1 and spent parts of two years with the Burnaby Express of the BCHL.

Erik also brings international experience after representing Team USA in the World University Games.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to join EWU and coach in the BCIHL," says Hudson. "The chance to work with the others on the coaching staff and share ideas can only help the team and me going forward."

EWU head coach Bill Shaw talked about the process of bringing Hudson on board and just how quickly the deal came together.

"We have been looking for a full-time goaltending coach for more than a year, but wanted to make sure we had the right person. A few weeks ago I talked to Erik and he indicated that he was moving back to the Spokane area and was interested in getting involved with EWU. Once he was able to confirm that he would be relocating to Spokane it took less than 24 hours for our staff to make the decision to bring Erik aboard."

Shaw also talked about the idea of being able to bring a different point of view into the program as it embarks on its second season in the BCIHL.

"Erik brings with him the knowledge he gained at Iowa State playing for Al Murdoch and his historic program, so we hope we can tap into some of what they do. I know this will benefit the program going forward, and that was only confirmed by our two returning goaltenders and how excited they were to have Erik come aboard."

EWU assistant coach JC Thomas also saw this move as nothing but a positive.

"It allows each member of the coaching staff to take control of one position and really pour their energy into that," he says.
