Simon Fraser adds forward Kody Dhaliwal from BCHL's Chilliwack Chiefs
Monday, June 11, 2012 - Submitted by SFU Men's Hockey
The Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from forward Kody Dhaliwal (Surrey, B.C.) to attend SFU and join the team for the 2012/13 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Having spent three full seasons in the BCHL, Dhaliwal brings a strong hockey resume to SFU and adds some serious depth to the forward lineup. He played all three seasons with the Chiefs organization, two in Langley before moving with the team back to Chilliwack.

In Dhaliwal’s final season with Chilliwack, he notched 31 points in 61 games.

"It’s great to have Kody aboard, he can play at both ends of the rink and having a three year BCHL veteran commit to SFU speaks volumes not only for the hockey program but for SFU as well," says SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. "We are getting a top caliber player both on and off the ice, Kody had some NCAA Division 1 offers. I think he’ll step right in and be a guy that will play big minutes for us."

Meanwhile, Kody echoes the same enthusiasm for becoming a member and student of SFU.

"I’m excited to come to a program that has had great success in their league, and is establishing themselves as a competitor against CIS and NCAA teams. Their education is second to none and I am honored to represent SFU," says Dhaliwal.

When asked to describe his style of play, he notes that he's "a reliable two way player who uses speed and vision to create opportunities" while bringing a "never surrender" attitude to the rink.

Dhaliwal is SFU’s fifth commitment for the 2012/13 season. Additional player announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
