Tuesday, March 27, 2012 - Submitted by BCIHL Media

Former Simon Fraser University defenceman James Isaacs has been named to the Southern Professional Hockey League's All-Rookie Team following an impressive first pro season with the Mississippi Surge.

Isaacs led all SPHL rookie defensemen with a plus-13 rating and finished tied for second in goals with eight. He also finished tied for first among all SPHL defensemen with three game-winning goals and was third among defensemen in power play goals (4).

His season totals also included 20 points and 67 penalty minutes in 56 games played.

The 22-year old made the jump to professional hcokey after helping SFU capture the 2011 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League championship. He was named to the All-Star team following the event after picking up five points in four postseason games.

Isaacs came to SFU from the University of British Columbia midway through the 2010-11 season. His junior hockey career included two seasons with the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
