The University of Victoria and Selkirk College are locked in a tight battle for the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League's fourth and final playoff berth. The Saints currently sit two points up on the Vikes on account of two additional overtime losses, and both teams head to the Lower Mainland this weekend for a pair of road contests against the league's top teams.
Selkirk begins the weekend in Langley on Friday against top-ranked Trinity Western before visiting Burnaby to take on Simon Fraser on Saturday night. Victoria will take on the Clan on Friday before wrapping their road trip with a matinee visit to TWU at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
The Saints have had a difficult time finding the win column since a four-game streak in October that lifted their record on the season to 4-2-0. Since then, they've dropped 11 of 12, with their lone win coming on home ice with a 4-2 victory over Vancouver Island University on January 10th.
Selkirk has had a tough time finding the back of the net with consistency this season. Rookie blueliner Tristen Cross leads the way with 16 points in as many games, distinguishing himself as the only Saints player on a point-per-game clip entering February. Tallon Kramer has recorded all five of Selkirk's wins between the pipes and leads all BCIHL netminders with 923 minutes played, but sits sixth in goals-against average and seventh in save-percentage playing behind a young group of defencemen.
The Vikes, meanwhile, have had an especially difficult time finding success on the Lower Mainland this season. They're 0-6 in road games played at SFU and TWU, with their most recent trip resulting in a pair of 5-3 losses on January 10 and 11.
Victoria sits in last place in goal scoring through 18 games with 51, but have had flashes of offensive brilliance like an 8-2 win over VIU on January 17th. Second year forward Otis Goldman leads the way with seven goals while Keenan Eddy holds the points lead with 15.
Selkirk and Victoria only play one another once in the final month of regular season play, in Victoria on February 28th.
All four games this weekend will be broadcast live on Hockey TV:
Friday, February 7th - Selkirk College at TWU - 7:00 PM
Friday, February 7th - Univ. of Victoria at SFU - 7:00 PM
Saturday, February 8th - Univ. of Victoria at TWU - 2:00 PM
Saturday, February 8th - Selkirk College at SFU - 7:00 PM
