Ty Westgard scored his first B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League goal and added an assist on Friday night as Simon Fraser University skated to a 4-2 road win over the University of Victoria at the Ian Stewart Complex.
The Vikes opened the scoring on a first period power-play as Keenan Eddy fired home from the slot off a Kyle Bird set-up. But the Clan struck back with a special teams tally of their own in the second, with Jake Keremidschieff beating Tyler Rennie 3:46 into the frame.
Westgard put SFU ahead for the first time just 19 seconds into the third and the Clan held on to the lead through most of the period until Otis Goldman drew the Vikes level with 4:08 left. The game looked bound for overtime until Kyle Bergh broke the deadlock with just 1:50 remaining in regulation, and Mac Colasimone added an insurance marker into an empty net with 40 seconds to go.
Colasimone and Eric Callegari joined Westgard with two points on the night, while Bergh's goal was his fourth in six games.
Andrew Henderson turned aside 37 shots to pick up his second win in as many appearances during his rookie season. Tyler Rennie allowed three goals on 42 shots and recorded the loss.
The Clan will continue their two-game weekend road trip on Saturday when they head to Nanaimo to face Vancouver Island University at 8:00 PM. The Vikes are back in action next Friday when they begin a Lower Maindland road swing at TWU.
