The BC Intercollgiate Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Island University Garrett Dunlop is the ANYTHING BRANDED BCIHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 7, 2019.
Dunlop had four points (two goals, two assists) for the Mariners over the weekend as they won their first two games of the season.
Dunlop had a third period assist on an Alex Hanson goal and added an empty netter himself to salt the game away on Friday night as VIU doubled the University of Victoria 4-2. It was sweet revenge for the Mariners after the Vikes won 5-1 to open the 2019-20 BCIHL season a week earlier.
Dunlop, who was named BCIHL Player of the Week once last season, added a pair of assists as VIU wrapped up the week with a 6-2 win over Selkirk College. The 24-year-old from Nanaimo had an assist on Gage Colpron's eventual winner just over five minutes into the second period to go along with a first period helper on a goal by Liam Cumberbirch.
Dunlop has averaged over a point-per-game during his two years in the BCIHL, tallying 45 points (21 goals, 24 assists) in 44 games. He's also added four points (two goals, two assists) in five career BCIHL playoff games.
Runners-up for this week's BCIHL Player of the Week award include Colpron, Vancouver Island University goaltender Jeremy Balyk, Selkirk College forward Dylan Heppler, and University of Victoria forward Otis Goldman.
