The University of Victoria is pleased to announce the signing of forward Zac Gladu from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Weyburn Red Wings for the 2019/20 BCIHL season.
A native of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Gladu is a right winger who plays a strong, physical game and has 118 games of Junior A experience with the SJHL's Red Wings, La Ronge Ice Wolves and Kindersley Klippers, as well as the Drayton Valley Thunder of the AJHL. He totalled 11 goals and 17 points over three Junior A seasons.
Gladu spent the 2017/18 season with the Quebec Majior Junior Hockey League's Val-d’Or Foreurs, where he scored a goal and added an assist and 18 penalty minutes in 17 regular season games. He is a multi-sport athlete who has also won gold medals in shot put, discus, high jump, long jump and a silver medal in the javelin throw at the 2017 Alberta Indigenous Games in Edmonton.
"I've chosen to commit to the University of Victoria because they are a top ranked Canadian University that allows me to further my education while also continuing to pursue my love of hockey," says Gladu. "The smaller campus offers a great setting for any outdoor enthusiast and is perfect for any multi-sport athlete with their second to none Centre for Althletics, Recreation and Special Abilities complex."
"The university will allow me to continue my education in a fast-paced, competitive environment with the support of top teachers and advisors. The Vikes program has been highly recommended to me by past players. The coaches and staff are highly experienced and dedicated and will help me bring my confidence and skills to the next level."
Gladu is the Vikes' third commitment for the 2019/20 season, joining forwards Keenan Eddy (Wellington/OJHL) and Stratton Pickett (Red Lake/SIJHL).
