Edward Lindsey scored a pair of goals, including the third period game-winner, to lift Selkirk College to a 4-2 home ice win over the University of Victoria on Friday night in Castlegar.
The Vikes took an early two-goal lead after Kyle Bird and Carter Huber each scored in the first 12 minutes after puck drop, but the Saints quickly earned their way back into the game. Nolan Percival struck just 25 second after Huber's tally to cut the deficit in half, and Lindsey potted his first of the night on a power-play later in the period to tie the game 2-2 after 20 minutes.
The teams played a scoreless second period, but Lindsey scored again midway through the third and Dylan Heppler had an empty netter to seal the victory.
Patrick Zubick picked up the win for the Saints, turning aside 31 shots on a night where Victoria outshot their hosts by a 33-31 margin. Michael Fredrick allowed three goals in the loss.
The win moves Selkirk three points clear of Simon Fraser University for third place, and within three points of VIU for second. The Vikes, meanwhile, are eight points adrift of SFU for the BCIHL's fourth and final playoff position.
The teams will wrap up their two-game weekend series on Saturday night at the Castlegar Recreation Complex. Faceoff is set for 7:00 PM.
