Trinity Western University play-by-play voice Marcus Fitzgerald has been selected as the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League's first-ever Broadcaster of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.
Fitzgerald was selected based on his excellent game-calling abilities as well as his positive impact on the overall quality of TWU's live broadcasts on Hockey TV.
"Marcus is a very talented and accomplished broadcaster and is well-deserving of this award," says BCIHL President Chris Munshaw. "His tremendous contributions towards Spartans' broadcasts benefit all our fans by bringing them the best possible experience when tuning in to watch BCIHL hockey."
In addition to his play-by-play duties for the Spartans, Fitzgerald is an anchor and reporter with Vancouver radio stations News 1130 and Sportsnet 650. He was previously named the BCHL Broadcaster of the Year for the 2014/15 season for his work with the Chilliwack Chiefs.
The BCIHL Broadcaster of the Year award has been introduced to honour excellence by those who broadcast BCIHL hockey as part of the league's webcasting service via Hockey TV. All BCIHL regular season and playoff games have been broadcast since the beginning of the 2013/14 season.
