Less than 24 hours after letting a three-goal lead slip away, Simon Fraser Unversity clamped down and made sure not to make the same mistake twice. The result: A convicing 7-3 victory over Eastern Washington that incuded three shorthanded goals.
The Clan were quick out of the gates, just as they had been a night earlier at Selkirk College. But after building a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes they continued to build momentum with back-toback goals from Pavlo Zerebecky and Mak Barden just 51 seconds apart early in the second period.
Any Eagles' comeback bid was quickly stifled by an SFU tally soon after, as Daniell Lange, Zerebecky and Brandon Tidy capped the scoring to boost the visitors' record to 1-1-0-0.
Tidy scored twice on the night, both times with SFU on the penalty kill, while Zerebecky also struck shorthanded. The pair combined for five points on the night.
Kyle Ruchas, Brett Mathews and Beau Walker replied in the loss for the Eagles.
EWU will now prepare for a home-and-home series with Selkirk College while SFU returns to Burnaby for their home opener against Vancouver Island University.
