The University of Victoria was back in action on Saturday evening in Cheney, WA where they picked up another two points after defeating hosts Eastern Washington University by an 8-4 score.
Leading 2-1 after 20 minutes of play, the Vikes busted things open in the second period with five unanswered goals in a span of 11 minutes. EWU pushed back to get within four but would come no closer in a game where they outshot UVic by a 44-31 margin.
Former Montreal Canadiens forward Patrick Holland led the Vikes' offensive attack with 4 goals and an assist. Shawn Mueller was not far behind with a goal and 3 assists, while the other goal scorers were defenseman Kyle Bird, Brandon Volpe and Luciano Somerville. Carsen Willans added three assists.
Zack Wear had a strong outing in the crease, stopping 42 of the 46 shots he faced while Austin Brihn and Tyler O'Donnell split duties in the Eagles crease and combined to stop 23 shots.
With the weekend sweep, the Vikes now sit atop the BCIHL standings with a 3-1-0 record and six points, two ahead of Trinity Western and Simon Fraser.
UVic is back in action next weekend when four-time defending BCIHL champions Selkirk College visit the Ian Stewart Complex. Gametime on Friday and Saturday is 7:30 PM.
