Trinity Western University lost its first game of the preseason, falling 3-2 to the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL on Friday evening at the George Preston Arena.
The Rivermen jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Spartans battle back to even the scoreline. However, Langley responded with what would prove to be the game-winner, scoring on a 5-on-3 power play.
"I thought overall our guys did a pretty decent job with our first game together," said coach Barret Kropf, whose team only opened training camp earlier this week. "We have lots of new faces in the lineup and we're trying to get some lines working together. I thought the guys competed well tonight and if we continue to do that and add some systems, we'll be well on our way to having a good start to the season."
The Spartans next preseason action see them travel to play a pair of games against Red Deer College of the ACAC on the road Sept. 17-18.
Prior to this year, the Spartans and Rivermen both played their home games at the Langley Events Centre. Since the arrival of the Vancouver Giants (WHL) to the LEC, the Rivermen are now based out of the Langley's George Preston Arena while TWU remains at the LEC.
