Trinity Western University will have a second member of the Oakley family join the fold next fall as Spartans coach Barret Kropf has officially announced the signing of forward Daniel Oakley (Richmond, B.C.), who is the brother of Spartans goaltender Aaron Oakley.
The 5-foot-7, 170-pound right winger is in his second year with the Richmond Sockeyes of the Pacific Junior Hockey League and is currently 10th in league scoring with 22 goals and 31 assists in 40 games.
"We're excited to be adding another Oakley to the Spartan family," Kropf said. "Daniel is a late-developing prospect who has really come on strong this year with his junior team in Richmond."
"Daniel has a nose for the net and can also be a playmaker when called upon. With six graduating players this year, we have a lot of holes to fill and we are confident that Daniel can step in and make an impact right away. He is a character player who will help us continue to build our culture."
Last year, Oakley, who graduated from Richmond Christian Secondary in 2012, tallied seven goals and 12 assists in 41 games as he helped Richmond to a PJHL regular season title. For his efforts, he was named the Sockeye’s Most Improved Player.
"I'm excited to come to Trinity Western and I look forward to growing spiritually and academically while improving as a hockey player," Oakley said.
With five games left on their 2014-15 regular season schedule, the Spartans are first in the BCIHL with a record of 15-2-0-2.
