Eastern Washington University is pleased to announce a playing commitment from goaltender Tyler O'Donnell (Fountain Valley, CA) to join the Eagles for the 2014/15 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
O'Donnell checks in at 5-foot-11, 195 pounds and recently completed his junior hockey career with the Kelowna Chiefs of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, where he was named the Okanagan Division's Goaltender of the Year this season.
The 20-year old posted a record of 20-10-0 for the Chiefs in 33 games this year, posting a 3.07 GAA and .911 save percentage. In three years with Kelowna, he appeared in 93 games, going 52-34-1 with a 3.17 GAA and .901 save percentage.
The addition of O’Donnell gives the team real depth in goal with three netminders capable of carrying the load. It also finishes the Eagles' work on the back end as they will now concentrate their attention on the forward core according to Eagles GM Bill Shaw.
O’Donnell is the third goalie to sign with the Eagles this spring and the team's eighth commitment overall. He joins fellow netminders Austin Brihn (Helena Bighorns, AWHL) and Corey Grummick (Rochester Ice Hawks, MNJHL), as well as defenceman Tanner Grey (Kimberley Dynamiters, KIJHL), Chris Watkins (Dakota College, NCJAA) and Brandon Wilbert (Finlandia University, NCAA DIII), and forward Rudy Sulmonte (Corpus Christi IceRays, NAHL).
