Eastern Washington University is pleased to announce a playing commitment from defenseman Tanner Gray (Bellingham, WA) to join the Eagles for the 2014/15 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
The 6-foot, 190 pound defenseman will join the Eagles after finishing his junior career with the Kimberley Dynamiters of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
Gray dressed in 38 regular season games for the Dynamiters this season, picking up five assists and 55 minutes in penalties. Over the course of his three-year career in the KIJHL, the 20-year old has scored twice and totaled 15 points and 265 penalty minutes in 95 games.
Prior to his time in Kimberley, Gray also spent time with the KIJHL's Penticton Lakers and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Yorkton Terriers.
"We've been looking to bolster the left side of our blueline with the upcoming graduation of two players and Tanner certainly helps us towards meeting that goal," says EWU head coach Bill Shaw.
Gray visited EWU in January to see the Eagles play twice and has been in contact with the EWU coaching staff ever since.
Gray joins forward Rudy Sulmonte and defenceman Chris Watkins as Eastern's third commit for the 2014/15 season.
The Eagles are expecting to make as many as 15 commitment announcements this springs after what coach Shaw described as a busy recruiting season.
