The BC Intercollegiate Hockey League announced today that Trinity Western University forward Logan Casavant is the BCIHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 23, 2020.
It's the second time this season and third time in his career that Casavant has earned the BCIHL Player of the Week award. The sophomore had two goals and three assists in two games as the Spartans halted a two game losing streak with a pair of wins on Vancouver Island.
The Melfort, Saskatchewan product set up the winning goal and scored the insurance marker during the first period on Friday in a 5-0 drubbing of the University of Victoria. Casavant also added his league-leading 19th assist of the season in the second period.
The 22-year-old set up Evan Last in the first period of Saturday's game at Vancouver Island University and scored a power play insurance marker himself in a 5-2 win over the Mariners.
The Nipawin Hawks grad is now second in the BCIHL in points this season, just one behind Last. His 21 assists is tops among all players and Casavant's five power play goals also ties him for the league lead with VIU's Garrett Dunlop.
Honourable mentions for this week's BCIHL Player of the Week include Trinity Western University forwards Evan Last (two goals, two assists) and Jarrett Fontaine (one goal, three assists), Spartans goaltender Isaac LaBelle (24 saves, first career BCIHL shutout) and University of Victoria goaltender Daniel Paul (50 saves).
